Below are the courses I studied and completed during my time at Michigan State University.  I have included a variety of pieces of  my work in order to represent the impact of my learning on my development and growth as an educator and as a person. 


SPRING 2007

EAD 845 Teaching Learning & School Restructuring
Grade 3.5/ Professor B. Smith 

This course focused on school and district-wide restructuring and its impact on teaching and learning.  School districts in California, such as San Diego, that have undergone major restructuring were the focus, and we students used those cases for study and reflection regarding the impacts of the restructuring process.

TE 891 Special Topics in Teaching Curriculum & Schooling
Grade 4.0/ Professor S. Weiland

This course provided me an opportunity to explore the world of inquiry by researching the philosophy, theories and practices of inquiry and how they drive the educational process in and out of school. The course was designed to encourage thoughtful reflection concerning my own educational beliefs and the impact of those beliefs on my own teaching philosophy.

EAD 860 Concept of a Learning Society
Grade 3.5/ Professor R. Mabokela

This course asked me to explore the definition and history of the learning society, my role as a member of society, and what it means to be a lifelong learner in today’s world.  This course utilized a wide variety of text and multimedia resources to support our learning and idea development.

EAD 867 Case Studies in Educational Leadership
Grade 4.0/ Professor M. Amy

 This case-based course focused on examining educational leadership.  Through the study and analysis of three cases, I  learned to see how my own thought pattern was changing.  Not only was I asked to work independently, but I was also afforded the opportunity to work in small group, which helped shape and challenge my thinking and analysis of each case.

EAD 861 Adult Learning
Grade 3.5/ Professor J. Dirkx

This course focused on developing a better understanding of learning in adulthood and what implications this knowledge holds for educating adults in higher, adult, continuing, and work-based education settings.  I studied the nature of the adult learner, including what motivation adults bring to informal or formal learning programs as adults, and what intellectural, cognitive, emotional, spiritual, and socio-cultural processes characterize learning in adulthood.

EAD 801 Leadership and Organizational Development
Grade 4.0/ Professor G. Jennings

This course asked me to consider the challenges faced by leaders in today's world and brainstorm ideas on how to address  specific challenges found in leadership. To support the ISLLC standards of educational leadership, this course used group case studies and emphasized the importance of working as a team to solve problems, complete tasks, and create an environment a positive working environment.

EAD 825 Shared Leadership in Schools
GPA 4.0/ Professor Barbara Meloche

This course focused on a wide range of leadership components such as teacher leadership, emotional intelligence, collective efficacy, trust, satisfaction, and vision.  The course explained the need for leaders to share in developing school vision and ideas for improvement, participating with site-based leadership teams, and making decisions about matters that affect others who are involved in the education process and program along side them.

CEP 832 Educating Students with Challenging Behavior
Grade 3.5 / Professor J. Aupperlee

This class  focused on different teaching strategies directed at managing and altering problem behaviors in the classroom.  In this course I learned about and practiced numerous strategies throughout the course, each aimed at re-evaluating teaching strategies and outlooks in order to create a more successful environment for the trouble learner.

ED 870  Capstone Seminar

The Michigan State University Capstone Seminar asked me to reflect on my masters program coursework and the intellectual and personal growth I have made during my time in the program.  As a culmination , I was then asked to create this online portfolio which displays examples of my work from each course, my reflection essay, my resume, and my goals for my future as I continue on as a life long learner.
